Women's clothes swap event in Oswestry to raise money for charity

Event next weekend will offer the chance to give unwanted clothes a new home and raise vital funds for Parkinson's UK

A women's clothing swap is being held next week to raise vital funds for the Parkinson's UK charity.

Event organiser Verity Gough is calling on the people of Oswestry to clear out their wardrobes and bring along unwanted items for others to enjoy.

Visitors can swap clothes they no longer wear for something new to them, with no postage, packaging or trips to the parcel shop.

There will also be a pop-up café serving tea, coffee and homemade cakes.

Accessories are welcome, but fast-fashion items, men's clothing, children's clothes and shoes will not be accepted and any items left over after the swap will be donated to charity.

Organisers are also appealing for donations of homemade cakes for the café.

Verity said she had chosen to support Parkinson's UK in memory of her stepfather who recently died after living with the disease.

Verity said: "The charity means a great deal to our family. We wanted to do something positive in my stepfather's memory and this felt like a lovely way to bring people together while raising money.

"Most of us have things in our wardrobes that we never wear but selling them online can feel like another job.

"This is a chance to have a clearout and find something you'll actually enjoy wearing, without spending a fortune on new clothes.

"Giving clothes another life is also a small way to reduce waste. Add tea, cake and a good cause, and you've got a lovely Saturday afternoon."

The Clothes Swap Social takes place on Saturday October 24 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at Hope Church in English Walls. Entry is £5.

Participants are asked to bring between three and ten clean, good-quality items of women's clothing, with drop-off between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

To arrange a clothing or cake donation or find out more, message the Clothes Swap Social Facebook page.
