Watch: Christmas is here as hundreds turn out for Market Drayton lights switch-on
The streets were packed as Market Drayton kicked off the festive season with its Christmas lights switch on.

Hundreds of people were present for the big countdown, with town mayor, Councillor Roy Aldcroft, joined by Grove School pupil Elspeth Talbot for the switch-on.
Elspeth, who did the countdown, was picked for the event after producing artwork for the front cover of the Market Drayton Schools Calendar Project this year.

Cheshire Street was buzzing with festive fever for the celebration with the town council even picking up a £400 bill to provide free parking.

The rotary club provided the Santa's grotto at the Town Hall, while there was also Morris dancing, a brass band, fire eating, a donkey, fairground rides, entertainers, and a packed town centre brimming with market stalls.
Councillor Aldcroft said they had been thrilled to see so many people turning out for the celebration.
He said: "It was great fun to look out onto the square and see all the people, it was fantastic."
