With Christmas just around the corner, there’s no better time to consider giving a rescue dog the gift of a loving forever home.
From sofa-loving seniors and affectionate companions to energetic adventurers ready to explore, Dogs Trust Shrewsbury has plenty of wonderful dogs hoping to find their perfect match.
Each has their own personality, quirks and needs, but they all have one thing in common: they’re waiting for someone to give them a place to call home.
Whether you’re looking for a four-legged walking buddy, a cosy cuddle companion or a playful pooch to bring some extra joy to family life, your perfect match could be among them.
Meet the dogs looking for their happy ending this Christmas, and find out more about how you could give one of them the fresh start they deserve.

5. Say hi to Penny!
This 10-year-old Jack Russell cross is known as a “little lady with a big personality” and is seeking a home to enjoy her retirement. Penny can live with older children but needs a home with no neighbouring or visiting dogs. A spokesperson for Dogs Trust said: “She still has plenty of classic terrier spirit, but she’s also a big fan of the quieter things in life - gentle adventures, home comforts and a good old-fashioned sunbathe.” | Phil Blagg

6. Meet Cookie!
Two-year-old lurcher Cookie is as sweet as his name suggests, and is looking for patient owners who can help him continue building his confidence around other dogs. He’s had limited socialisation so can be reactive around dogs, but the team say he’s making great progress and loves having four-legged company on walks. A spokesperson from the centre said: “He really is one clever Cookie! He's a super friendly boy who loves meeting new people and is always happy to stop for a fuss. “Cookie also travels brilliantly in the car, making him the perfect companion for adventures.” | Phil Blagg Photography.

7. Meet Vera!
Gorgeous Vera is a three-year-old lurcher with a “real spring in her step”. The team say that Vera loves getting out and about on walkies, and describe her as “friendly, affectionate and wonderfully easy to like”. She’ll need an adult-only home and to be the only pet, but would be happy with canine friends to join her on walks. | Phil Blagg Photography

8. Say hello to Clover!
Described as “incredibly loyal”, eight-year-old Clover is a spaniel cross looking for his special someone. The Dogs Trust team say Clover is a “lovely, intelligent boy” who loves exploring and using his brain. He’ll need to be the only pet in the home, but would happily live with older children. | Phil Blagg Photography
