Concern over online footage reportedly showing Telford bus driver attack
A video purporting to show the assault in Madeley has been widely shared on social media following the incident on Friday evening
Footage appearing online which reportedly shows a bus driver being attacked in Telford has sparked concern after the incident ended with the driver being thrown from his bus and the vehicle being driven into several cars.
West Mercia Police confirmed that officers were called to Court Street at around 6.37pm after receiving reports that a bus driver had been assaulted.
Police said the driver was ejected from the vehicle during the attack before the bus was driven along Park Way towards the High Street.
Video of the incident has subsequently appeared across social media platforms.
Questions have now been raised by residents over whether footage showing the driver being attacked should be shared online, with many saying it was “just not fair on him or his family”.
The vehicle was driven on the wrong side of the road and collided with multiple vehicles before it was eventually stopped.
The bus driver was treated by paramedics for minor injuries. Police said no-one else was believed to have been injured.
Reports published online claim eyewitnesses recorded footage of the attack and surrounding events. One video being circulated appears to show the confrontation involving the driver.
However, West Mercia Police has not confirmed the authenticity or full context of individual videos circulating online.
The force is instead asking members of the public who witnessed the incident or captured footage to provide it directly to investigators.
Detective Sergeant Taigh Lannie said officers were particularly interested in dashcam, CCTV, mobile phone and doorbell footage from Court Street, Park Way and High Street around the time of the incident.
Police have urged anyone with relevant footage to contact them rather than relying on footage being shared publicly online.
The circumstances of the assault remain under investigation, with a man arrested on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving.
West Mercia Police said its investigation remains ongoing and appealed directly to anyone who may have recorded what happened.
Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to email [email protected], quoting incident number 379i of September 18, 2026.
Detective Sergeant Lannie said the incident would have been "alarming" for people in the area and said officers had responded quickly.
The force has not released further details about the circumstances of the assault while the investigation continues.
A man has since been charged in connection with this incident. Read more: ‘In Telford for a week’: Man charged after 'bus stolen and driver attacked'
