Telford Town Park footpath closed by sinkhole for nearly a year is finally set to reopen
“We're really pleased to be getting the Silkin Way ready to reopen”
A popular walking and cycling route that has been closed for nearly a year due to a sinkhole is set to reopen tomorrow.
The Silkin Way in Telford Town Park is expected to reopen to the public on Friday (November 6) following the completion of temporary repairs.
“We're really pleased to be getting the Silkin Way ready to reopen and welcoming people back onto this popular route,” said Telford & Wrekin Council deputy leader and cabinet member for neighbourhoods, planning and sustainability Carolyn Healy.

She added: “We know how important it is for residents and visitors who use it for walking, cycling and enjoying the park, and we understand the frustration the closure has caused.”
The sinkhole, which opened up on the path near the recently restored amphitheatre, forced the cancellation of a Telford parkrun event last November, and the weekly 5k has been following an alternative route ever since.

The council said these repairs are temporary and it is still working with “external stakeholders” to find a permanent solution.
Councillor Healy said: “I'd like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.
“It’s great that we are now close to restoring access and allowing people to enjoy the route once again.”
Telford’s parkrun organisers welcomed the “hopefully good news” and said new risk assessments will be carried out in the park this weekend.
“We will keep you posted,” a spokesperson said on Facebook.
