Telford primary school charity to dissolve amid recruitment challenges

The move does not mark the end of community events

A parent and teachers association in Telford is set to dissolve after struggling to recruit enough volunteers.

Muxton Primary School’s Parent Teacher Friends Association (PTFA), which has raised more than £18,000 for the Telford primary school, is set to formally dissolve over the next 12 weeks.

In a letter to parents and carers dated July 6, the charity trustees said recruitment of enough trustees and volunteers to meet the growing demands of administration, governance, and event planning had become “increasingly challenging”.

The committee stressed that the move does not mark the end of community events or fundraising at the school.

It said Muxton Primary intends to continue hosting activities that bring families together, with a “more flexible and sustainable approach” to future fundraising.

To support the transition, the PTFA said it has purchased disco equipment so that school discos can continue, and all PFTA games, stock, and other assets will be transferred to the school for future use.

Over the past two years, the PTFA has raised more than £18,000 for pupils’ benefit. The letter stated the remaining funds will go towards completing payments for new school laptops.

The trustees said their focus in the coming weeks will be on closing the charity “responsibly, transparently, and in full compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.”

They also extended heartfelt thanks to parents, carers, volunteers and staff for their support, describing their generosity and enthusiasm as having created “memorable experiences” for children and made a lasting contribution to the school community.
