Hundreds of residents and visitors attended a memorial service in Shrewsbury. A procession led by the Bligny Band and Bugles of the Shropshire Army Cadet Force was joined by Armed Forces units, veterans, councillors, former mayors, magistrates, and representatives from service and civilian organisations, as it made its way through the town to The Quarry Park.

The memorial service included the sounding of The Last Post, followed by a two-minute silence and the Reveille. Wreaths were laid by civic leaders, including the Mayor of Shrewsbury Alex Wagner, alongside serving and former military personnel, emergency service representatives and community organisations, in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Councillor Alex Wagner said: "We gathered as a community to honour the brave souls who gave their lives in service to our nation.

"As we paid tribute to those who secured our freedoms, we also held in our hearts those impacted by conflicts still unfolding across the globe. The phrase 'Lest We Forget' continues to echo with deep meaning and enduring relevance."

Crowds several rows deep lined the streets of the county town, with residents turning out in their masses. Other services around Shropshire also attracted large numbers of people paying their respects.

Shrewsbury MP Julia Buckley joined residents in the town to honour the fallen and praised a "brilliant turnout".

She said: "I'm always struck by the turnout and feeling at events like today's, and the many others throughout the year; the sense of respect and reflection is special and shows the very best of our town."

Mayor Alex Wagner will also join representatives of the Royal British Legion for a two-minute silence in The Square, Shrewsbury, at 10.45am on Tuesday, November 11, to mark Armistice Day - commemorating the moment fighting ceased in the First World War at 11am on November 11, 1918.

Emergency service personnel from across Shropshire also joined commemorations. Firefighters at Wellington Fire Station observed a two-minute silence, while representatives laid wreaths in Lawley and Wellington.

A post said: "Members of Wellington Fire Station were out observing the two-minute silence and laid a wreath in Lawley and Wellington. As we observe the silence at the 11th hour, let us remember the fallen, support our veterans, and recommit ourselves to building a world worthy of their sacrifice."

In Wellington veterans, serving forced members, civic leaders and local children gathered at the war memorial near All Saints Church for the town's service.

Telford MP Shaun Davies joined the memorial service in Oakengates, where he also laid a wreath.
"Today and everyday we remember those who fought for our nation," he said. "Through courage and dedication, they made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms today. We will remember them.

"Thank you Oakengates. An incredible turnout and reflection of Telford’s values."
Elsewhere, North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan attended a service in Oswestry, while Mark Pritchard, MP for The Wrekin, joined commemorations at St Swithun’s Church in Cheswardine.

South Shropshire MP and veteran Stuart Anderson - who served for more than eight years with the Royal Green Jackets on multiple operational tours - attended a service in Ludlow.
He said: "On this Remembrance Day, we honour all those who gave their lives in service to our country - and to stand with our veterans and Armed Forces community who continue to protect our freedoms."
