A former Shrewsbury Sixth Form College pupil is hoping for glory on the BBC's University Challenge programme.
Liam Shaw, 20, is studying physics at Balliol College, Oxford, and has been using his speed on the buzzer to help push his team into the quarter finals of the TV quiz show.
The student, who also attended Meole Brace School in Shrewsbury, has been coping well with the quick-fire questions from host Jeremy Paxman and his performance has impressed staff at his former college.
College principal Martin Ward said: "Liam worked really hard during his time with us and gained A grades across the board.
"He was a talented musician and a quick-witted debater, and staff and pupils are absolutely behind him as he and his team storm through the rounds on the show."
The student took A-levels in physics, further maths, chemistry, English literature, and general studies.
The Balliol team has beaten Merton College, Oxford, and Pembroke College to make the quarter finals. It now has to win two of its ties to reach the semi-finals.
