Residents warned to 'stay away' from damaged building after lorry ploughs into Ludlow community centre

Residents are being advised to stay away from a community centre that was left significantly damaged after a lorry left a trail of destruction along one Ludlow road.

After colliding with a house, fence panels and several vehicles, a lorry ploughed into Ludlow Youth Centre on Lower Galdeford in the early hours of Monday (April 28).

The road was closed for several hours as emergency and recovery services worked to remove the HGV from the side of the community centre. Fortunately, no-one was injured in the incident.

Shropshire Council, which runs Family and Community Hub services from the building, said it is seeking alternative venues in Ludlow.

The local authority is also warning residents to "stay away" from the building while investigations and repairs are undertaken.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Council said: "We have had to suspend the Family and Community Hub services at Ludlow Youth Centre until further notice following a road traffic accident overnight involving a lorry which has caused damage to the building.

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause for people using the hub in Ludlow. The council and partner agencies are contacting anyone who was due to attend a pre-booked appointment to advise them of the closure.

"We are working with services based in the hub to see if these can be moved to alternative venues in the town. Further updates on this will be provided as work continues with the next update provided by Wednesday, April 30.

"For the safety of the public and staff, the building will remain closed while we conduct a thorough assessment and carry out any necessary repairs. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the building during this time."
