Work on £83,000 of improvements in Llandrindod Wells is well ahead of target.

The Town Council successfully bid and was awarded a grant of £83,000 as public realm bid to the Pride in Place Fund.

Llandrindod Wells Town Council planned to carry out ten projects from the money including jet washing and painting the town centre heritage lamp posts, purchasing seven new recycled waste bins, refurbishing the bandstand, purchasing five replacement poster display boards, the design of a new town map and town centre display boards, and four new tower planters.

The other projects include the refurbishment of lake park public benches, the installation of a gravel grid system on parts of Temple Gardens to enable all year use, the purchase of 20 gazebos for markets and a small storage container for the gazebos.

At the October town council meeting, town clerk Jane Johnston said; “We are well ahead of target with these works and a second financial claim has been submitted.

“The gravel grid system has been completed, the interactive totem boards, gazebos have been acquired along with suitable storage, new bins are being installed this week, lamp posts have been jet washed and painting will start during the better weather, the Bandstand has been painted with new surface covering and other small projects have been completed.

“The gravel grid system is to ensure that the use of the land on Temple Gardens can be extended throughout the year to encourage community events, markets and social activities.

“Gazebos have also been funded in support of the interventions lists. This element is now completed and following seeding the grass has now been fully restored returning it back to a beautiful green space.

“Interactive totem boards have been installed on Station Crescent and at the Lake Park. These include links to a town map, defibrillator locations, places of interest, local event posters, regular town activities, community information and information relating to the Town Council.

“All works have been undertaken by local contractors in support of the local economy, although some specialist supplies have been sourced outside of the area.”

She said she will report further at November's meeting.

The council was told all business properties within the designated area for the Transforming Towns Shop Frontage scheme have been contacted and an informal meeting will be held to talk business owners through the process.

Jane said: “This scheme is not guaranteed, however, Powys County Council is hopeful that funding will be allocated from April 2027 and this Council will then have a 'ready to go application.'”

Jane also mentioned the new skate park in the town and she said she was delighted it is now complete.

She recorded her thanks to Canvas Spaces for their hard work and determination during incredibly hot weather and to Jase Hawker for his constant support throughout this project, but particularly during the planning of the opening. Also to assistant Steven Benham who stood in for Jane at the official opening event.
