£600k cut from West Mercia Police budget

The police force which covers Shropshire has received a £600,000 cut to its government funding.

West Mercia Police will receive £109.7m from central government next year, leading to Police and Crime Commissioner Bill Longmore warning of a potential rise in council tax.

Mr Longmore said: "The government has made its position quite clear around continued reforms to policing. We support the need to modernise, in order to provide the best service to the public in a changing world and continue to lead the way nationally in many collaborative projects.

"Our strategic alliance with Warwickshire Police, numerous joint projects with local fire services, and the joint property management company we have formed with other local public bodies are just a few examples of our commitment to working with partners in West Mercia for the greater good. We will continue to look for ways to join up our working wherever appropriate."
