'Maybe try another day' visitors to Mid Wales beauty spot urged after bank holiday traffic 'chaos'
The waterfall’s access road became blocked
People hoping to visit a bustling Mid Wales beauty spot were advised to “try another day” after an influx of visitors on a sweltering Bank Holiday caused “chaos” on the approach.
Visitors flocked to see the 240ft waterfall at Pistyll Rhaeadr near Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, west of Oswestry, on Monday (May 25) as the UK recorded its hottest ever May day. The same record was broken again on Tuesday.
Pistyll Rhaeadr proved so popular the narrow access road struggled to cope and became blocked at times, prompting the site’s custodians to urge would-be visitors to consider coming back another day.

Two posts on the Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall Facebook page on Monday afternoon included photos of the traffic causing “bank holiday Monday chaos”.
The first post at 2.35pm said: “Please take care on the road. Try and keep in groups of three, no more. Two ideally.
“Give plenty of space and time to avoid gridlock.
“It’s very busy today; if thinking of coming up maybe consider another day when it’s less busy.”
A second post an hour later said: “Please be advised that the very narrow lane leading to the waterfall is currently blocked due to the amount of cars going up and down.
“We understand people want to visit on such a beautiful day but it may be a good idea to try another day. Safe travels.”
Pistyll Rhaeadr is served by a narrow road from Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, and a car park and cafe near the foot of the fall.
