Paedophile who attempted to arrange the rape of an 11-year-old in a hotel is jailed

James Taylor-Falcao was also found to be in possession of indecent images of children.

A former Oswestry man who tried to arrange the rape and abuse of an 11-year-old child in a hotel has been jailed.

James Taylor-Falcao, now of Upton, Chester, had been living in Shropshire in June 2023 when he began speaking to what he thought was a woman on the social media app Chat Avenue.

In reality, the 40-year-old was speaking to an undercover police officer who had been told to “seek out sexual predators”.

Shrewsbury Crown Court was told on Wednesday that Taylor-Falcao had described himself as a married man with “no limits” a term that is regularly used by paedophiles to identify themselves to one another.

Judge Trevor Meegan was told that after moving to another social media app, the undercover officer claimed she had two nieces, aged 11 and four.

In reality, the children didn’t exist, but the court was told that Taylor-Falcao began describing in a sexual way what he would like to do to the 11-year-old.

By September 2023, the conversation with the undercover officer progressed, and Taylor-Falcao began plotting with the undercover officer to bring the 11-year-old to a hotel in East London for him to abuse.

The court was told how he described to the woman how he would visit during the day so as not to arouse suspicion from hotel staff when a child visited his room. He then described in graphic detail the sexual acts he wanted to carry out on the child.

Judge Meegan was then told how the paedophile requested images of the girl and sent images of sex toys to the woman with a description of how he would use them on the child.

Following this, police raided Taylor-Falcao’s home in September 2023, where they not only did found the sex toys he had sent pictures of and had been delivered to his home, but his phone was also seized and searched where police found 150 moving images of the most graphic kind of child abuse on his device.

Taylor-Falcao had denied any involvement in the conversations and claimed he had been “set-up”. However, a jury found him guilty earlier this year of both facilitating the commission of child sex offence (rape) and being in possession of 150 category-A indecent images of children.

Judge Trevor Meegan, told Taylor-Falcao, who was representing himself, that it was “the court’s duty to protect children”.

He said: “You entered into an extended online communication with an undercover police officer.

“You believed she was offering access to her 11-year-old niece for abuse.”

The judge said he had exhibited “enthusiastic and graphic language” and exhibited a clear desire to commit sexual abuse and added: “Had the child existed I have no doubt the rape would have occurred. You only stopped when the police arrested you.

“You offending demonstrates to me a clear sexual interest in children.”

He jailed Taylor-Falcao for 12 years and said he would have to serve at least eight years before being considered for release.

Taylor-Falcao was also slapped with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order on him to monitor his internet use and contact with other people on his release from prison and placed on the sex offenders register for life.
