People in Oswestry are being warned to keep their doors and windows shut at night after a spate of raids on houses in the town.
Three homes were targeted between Tuesday night and the early hours of yesterday morning.
This has prompted the police to warn people about giving thieves easy access to their homes.
A handbag containing various bank cards, store cards and keys was stolen in a burglary in Lloyd Street after the house was entered through an unsecured window between 11pm on Tuesday and 5am yesterday.
Another house in Llwyn Road was also entered through an unlocked patio door on the same night. A handbag was stolen and later found discarded, but two sets of keys, a Canon digital camera and some cigarettes were not found.
The third incident happened in Windsor Road at about 4am yesterday when a door was left unlocked for a few moments.
A Blackberry mobile phone was stolen, along with a black Vauxhall Astra. The car was later found on fire in Crestwood Court at about 4.30am.
Constable Rebecca Smith, of Oswestry Police, appealed for anyone with information about the incidents or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the areas to contact police on 08457 444888.
She also warned people to ensure all the doors and windows at their property were locked and secure.
"If you leave the house, even for just a short time, or are in another part of the house then make sure doors and windows are secure," she added.
