One-woman show explores the extraordinary life of E. Nesbit at Wellington Orbit
Larks & Magic explores the unexpected twists and turns of her life
The extraordinary life of the author behind The Railway Children will be brought at the Wellington Orbit this Saturday - September 12.
The venue will be hosting ‘Larks & Magic’, a one woman show by Alison Neil based on the life of E. Nesbit, the author behind beloved children's classics including Five Children and It.

A statement from the Orbit said: “E. Nesbit is remembered for the children's stories that have enchanted generations, but her own life was every bit as unconventional and fascinating as her fiction.
“Larks & Magic explores the unexpected twists and turns of her life, from her unconventional family arrangements and involvement in the Fabian Society to her place within the Bohemian literary world of turn of the century London.
“The show is performed by Alison Neil, who began her professional acting career in 1978 and has since appeared extensively on stage, including in the West End and on national and international tours.
“Her credits include Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Little Lies and The Importance of Being Earnest, as well as work in film, television and radio.
“Larks & Magic offers audiences the chance to discover the woman behind some of Britain's most enduring children's stories and the extraordinary life that inspired her work.”
Each performance will also be followed by a Q&A with Alison, giving audiences the opportunity to find out more about E. Nesbit, her life and the process of bringing her story to the stage.
Damian Breeze, manager at Wellington Orbit said: “We’re really excited to welcome Larks & Magic to Wellington Orbit for our first live event in our new upstairs spaces.
“We’ve been looking forward to bringing live performances into the new space, and we’re delighted that Alison’s show about the fascinating life of E. Nesbit will be the first.”
The performances take place at Wellington Orbit in the Hunter Studio on Saturday, September 12, at 2.30pm and 6.30pm with a Q&A following each show.
Tickets cost £15 for adults and £14 for concessions and are available online.
