'We're devastated': Staff begin petition after town's Morrisons earmarked for closure
Staff at a Morrisons store in Herefordshire/Shropshire have voiced their devastation over the store's potential closure due to cost pressures, with a petition underway to halt it.
Staff at a Morrisons store on the Herefordshire/Shropshire border have spoken of the “devastation” that the store has been earmarked for closure.
The supermarket firm said it was facing cost pressures which had been worsened by "Government policy".
It has not outlined the specific locations of the 100 stores nor elaborated on which government policies were causing concern.
However, staff at a Morrisons in Leominster have said they are to be hit and are looking to begin a petition to halt the closure.
Announcing the news on social media, staff from the Morrisons Daily in South Street said they were “heartbroken”.
They said: “ As by now everyone already knows we were sadly informed yesterday that Our Shop Morrisons Daily, including the Post Office is due for closure possibly this coming July 2026.
“Apparently we do not take enough for them to substantiate for us to stay open.
“The staff are devastated and heartbroken. We only got informed yesterday and I had to make sure all staff were informed by 3.30pm yesterday and we were told not to report anything.
“Obviously we needed time to digest this and we have already started a petition to stop the closure.
“We will be putting the petition in any shop and establishment that wants to support us.”
They added they were also going to approach Ellie Chowns, MP for Herefordshire, in the hope she can help.
