‘Looking for something old for your big day?’ Vintage store says wedding dresses don’t have to be new

Vintage wedding dresses are becoming the next trend.

This Shropshire clothing store has advised brides seeking ‘something old’ for their big day that a vintage wedding dress could be the very thing.

Tina Lou, who runs Vintage at the Old Mill Antiques Centre in Bridgnorth, said vintage wedding dresses are becoming a new trend and she has had received some bridal wear dating back to the 1940s and ‘50s.

“There is something very special about vintage wedding dresses, they have a unique style and elegance,” said Tina.

“My current vintage wedding collection at the Old Mill includes four beautiful dresses, two from the 1940s and two from the 1950s.

“One of the 1940s dresses is made of parachute silk, which was quite common and accessible during World War Two

“The style in this era was fairly simple, cut to flatter curves but with no excess material as obviously material was on ration.

“Dresses in the 1950s were more glamorous than in the previous decade, with fuller skirts and beaded embellishments.

“One of my 1950s wedding dresses has a bateau neckline and beaded bodice and skirt, made of satin material.

“The second dress is lace with a taffeta underskirt to give it more shape and a fitted bodice with thick lace straps – this was quite daring for the time and would probably have been teamed with a bolero jacket.

“I love the occasion of a wedding and these dresses would make any bride look a million dollars!”

She added the prices of the vintage wedding dresses range from £75 to £140.
