Steve Norcross, known as 'Ginge', was travelling from Gobowen when he was hit late on Saturday night.

He was a devoted fan of The New Saints FC, and staff at the club paid warm tribute to him following the news.

Club chairman Mike Harris said: "The sad news of the loss of Steve has come as a huge shock to me and the club.

"He was such a great fellow, one of the lads, but always kind and considerate to all. In this we have lost a very dear person, whom I am proud to have called a friend.

"Our feelings and deepest sympathy go out to all his family and friends, who I know will miss him dearly."

Tragic

Finance director Helen Harris said: "It is very sad to hear that an avid supporter and a true gentleman known as Ginge has been taken away from us in such tragic circumstances.

"A passionate New Saints’ fan, who travelled far and wide to support the team. He was a lovable person, always pleasant and everyone’s friend.

"He will be truly missed pitch-side and at The Venue."

Chief operating officer Ian Williams said: "Words cannot describe how devastated I am hearing the news that my good friend Ginge has tragically been taken from us.

"He loved The New Saints FC and was a true supporter of the club, following both home and away and on many of our European adventures.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends today, he will be sadly missed. RIP Ginge."

Club spokesman Stewart Bloor said: "Whether home or away, Wales or the continent, Ginge was a familiar face at TNS FC games. His loyalty was very much appreciated by everyone at the club, but more important than that, he was valued as a person. He will be sadly missed by us all."
