National Grid called after reports of sparking transformer near Church Stretton

Firefighters inspected the cables on Saturday night

The National Grid was called after the fire service received reports of a sparking electrical cable near Church Stretton.

The fire service said it received a call at around 10pm on Saturday (July 18) with concerns about an electricity transformer in Leebotwood.

Fire crews attended and found no fire but inspected the cables.

“Crews attended a report of an electricity transformer affixed to a telegraph pole seen to be sparking. On arrival the transformer had self-extinguished and all power lines were seen to be intact and attached,” a spokesperson said.

They added: “Fire service personnel monitored the transformer for hot spots using a thermal imaging camera. The incident was left in the hands of the National Grid.”
