One person was “aggressively driven at”, it was alleged.

"Inconsiderate and dangerous" parking is leading to some roads in Shrewsbury being impassable and drives becoming partially blocked, a councillor has alleged.

Councillor Rosemary Dartnall, who represents Column and Sutton, listed parking concerns in the towns as one of the areas West Mercia Police needs to tackle.

"It leads to restricted or low visibility for motorists or pedestrians passing by, partially blocking drives, and making narrow roads impassable," said Councillor Dartnall.

"This leads to reduced road safety for all users and can also lead to anti-social behaviour.

"For example, one person who asked to move their car a little along because it was making it impossible for a resident to get off their drive was aggressively driven at. This was reported to police.

"This kind of parking is not simply illegal parking but it is specific in that road safety is impacted negatively as a result.

"It includes parking on verges, across dropped kerbs, on corners, and on pavements - often forcing people to walk in the road.

"It is associated with school arrival and departure times and also related to college students. A large part of the area between the college [Shrewsbury College] and Wenlock Road has prohibited parking, so students go a bit farther afield."

Councillor Rob Wilson (Lib Dems, Copthorne) also highlighted parking as an area of concern. He said Shorncliffe Drive and Salamanca Avenue are being adopted by taxis as an unofficial layover location, which particuarly happens during the day.
