Further investigations needed into death of Welshpool man, inquest finds

The death of a Welshpool man requires further investigation, an inquest has found.

The inquest into the death of Ian Keith Lovell was opened at Pontypridd Coroner's Court on Wednesday, August 26.

It heard that Mr Lovell's death was reported by Dyfed Powys Police on August 12.

Mr Lovell, 75, resided alone and had struggled with his mental health.

On August 11 he was found deceased at his home with empty bottles of alcohol and blister packs of tablets by the side of him.

He was identified by his neighbour.

South Wales Central Area Coroner Rachel Knight heard that Dr Potter at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital carried out a post mortem on August 13 but he did not provide a provisional cause of death as it is pending further investigation.

Mr Lovell lived at Dol y Felin in Welshpool and was born in Birmingham.

Ms Knight said it was necessary to open an inquest into Mr Lovell's death as there is reason to believe it may have been unnatural.

She adjourned it for a full hearing at a later date after further investigations are concluded.

She passed her sincere condolences to Mr Lovell's family and friends.
