Flat plan for space above shops in Telford high street
The building is locally listed as a good example of a Georgian-style early 19th-century building
Plans have been submitted for a two-bed flat above two shops in Telford.
Tech Property, of Shrewsbury, has applied to change the use of a first-floor retail storage area above two ground-floor shops in High Street, Dawley.
A retail managing agent told Telford & Wrekin Council the first-floor storage area does not form part of the tenant’s leased premises and it does not use it.
The managing agent said one of the businesses is on the ground floor "without reliance upon the first-floor storage space”.
"The proposed change of use of the first floor would therefore not result in the loss of storage accommodation currently relied upon by the ground-floor retailer."
Planners have been told that the proposal seeks to make effective use of existing underutilised accommodation without the need for external alterations to the property.
The building is locally listed as a good example of a Georgian-style early 19th-century building forming part of the established historic townscape.
