The town's Millennium Sensory Garden has had its flowers torn up and plants from the flower beds thrown across the garden.

West Mercia Police say sometime on Monday night this week, unknown offenders entered the gardens and committed a mindless act of vandalism.

A volunteer who helps maintain the garden called police the following morning to report that there had been another incident overnight.

This is the second act of vandalism at the garden in less than a week.

It was reported to police on Saturday morning that offenders broke a number of climbing roses, left footprints over a number of raised flower beds and discarded empty alcohol bottles and other litter in the area.

Police said both incidents have been "a thoughtless and deplorable act of vandalism and distressing anti-social behaviour".

The garden is funded by local contributors and maintained by a group of volunteers.

It is open to members of the public but with emphasis on making it accessible to wheel chair users, people who have a vision or hearing impairment and the less mobile members of the community.

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to contact them on 101 quoting incident 0244S 231018.
