Wanted person arrested after police intercept vehicle heading into Shropshire from Wales
Police said the wanted driver gave false details when stopped
A driver wanted on recall to prison was arrested after officers intercepted a vehicle heading into Shropshire.
A suspected drink-driver has ended up back behind bars after being arrested at the roadside on Friday (June 12).
Officers from the Oswestry and Ellesmere Safer Neighbourhood Team were alerted that a vehicle linked to an incident across the Welsh border was heading towards the county - and that North Wales police wished to speak to its occupants.
The car was located a short time later by officers from the Ellesmere team.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “Officers from the Ellesmere SNT located the vehicle and whilst making enquiries with the driver, they suspected them of being intoxicated.
“This resulted in the driver undertaking a roadside breath test which they failed, leading to their arrest.”
Further checks revealed the individual had also given false details. Their true identity was soon confirmed, and officers discovered they were wanted on recall to prison.
West Mercia Police said the person was taken into custody and will be returned to prison over the weekend.
