House of Yum Shrewsbury: Owners of beloved Thai restaurant thank "incredible" customers as second site announced
The owners of an award-winning Thai restaurant have thanked their "incredible" customers for their unwavering support as they open a second site.
Owners and married couple Amar and Pabel Saha took over House of Yum, in the Market Hall in Shrewsbury, in March 2016 when its former owner was eager to sell the business.
With a small kitchen and seating for only eight, the business was a great starting point for the couple.
But Pabel, who has many years of experience in the hospitality industry prior working at The Curry House in Mardol, always had ambitions to expand when the time was right.
The couple decided to take the plunge earlier this year, announcing their takeover of the former Sprinters Coffee Shop and Bodytech Health Club in Mardol to open a second venue.
Speaking to the Shropshire Star, Amar, 31, said the new opening is in response to the demand for an evening offering and the response to the news has been “amazing”.
Amar said: “We've been saying for years that we might open a second location, but it just wasn't feasible with us growing our family and business rates, etcetera.
“People had been telling us for years, ‘We really want to come in the evenings, you should expand’. It just wasn't possible at the time.
“But last year, we had an opportunity to take over another business, and we were initially going to continue it as a cafe-bar, but there's so many cafes in Shrewsbury and we don't need another coffee shop.
“And we thought, ‘You know what? People have been saying it and we should do what we know best. We know how to do it, we know our customers, we know that they'll support us, and we'll just open it in the evenings’.
“And the response has been amazing.”
Currently under renovations, the new House of Yum site is set to open mid-Spring with the same menu of classic Thai dishes as its Market Hall venue.
But customers can expect some new additions such as a larger drinks menu featuring cocktails and a wider selection of beer and wines.
And as the new opening becomes closer to reality each day, Amar said she is excited to welcome frequent diners as well as newcomers into the transformed site.
“We’d just like to really thank our customers,” Amar said.
“I run our social media pages so when I put the announcement out there, I didn't expect to receive such a great response.
“I knew we'd get support, because they are really supportive but to see as far as it's gone, it's been actually incredible.
“It's really, really heart-warming for us to see that we're supported so much. It has just motivated us to work even harder - for our customers.”
