Electric model will bring a new entry point to the range.

Nissan has launched a new entry-level Leaf with a new, smaller-battery version.

Priced from £28,849 inclusive of the Government’s full £3,750 Electric Car Grant, the new 52kWh battery version sits underneath the already-introduced 75kWh version in the range.

It puts it well under the £32,249 for the standard Leaf with the larger battery, which has been the only option up until now. All versions of the Leaf qualify for the Government’s full grant owing to its production at Nissan’s facility in Sunderland.

That battery will, according to Nissan, deliver a range of up to 280 miles on a single charge, slightly under the 386 miles that should come from the larger battery car.

As standard, the 52kWh car comes in Engage trim, which brings dual 12.3-inch screens, a 360-degree around-view parking camera and Nissan’s full ProPilot Assist system, which incorporates features such as intelligent cruise control and lane-keep assistance.

There’s also the option to upgrade to the £30,849 Advance model which, as well as the same range, gains features such as larger 14.3-inch screens, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, and a dimming panoramic sunroof. An electric-powered boot, wireless phone charging and full-length LED signature lights at the front of the car also come as part of the Advance package.

This grade also adds an efficiency-boosting heat pump, which can help deliver the best-possible range, particularly in cold conditions.

The new 52kWh Leaf is available to order now.
