Hybrid model will arrive as the brand’s flagship.

Geely will look to widen its line-up of cars with a new flagship SUV.

Called the Monjaro, it’s a large SUV model designed to rival the likes of Skoda’s Kodiaq and Hyundai’s Santa Fe while cementing the Chinese brand’s place here.

Expected to arrive in the UK next year – following a launch in Egypt this month – the Monjaro will sit alongside EX5, EX2 and Starray models in the brand’s range.

Geely has confirmed that the Monjaro will get the EM-i plug-in hybrid setup that is already used on the Starray. There, it combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor which unlocks an electric-only range of up to 81 miles in big-battery versions. Geely has yet to confirm full powertrain details for the Monjaro, though it’s expected to offer all-wheel-drive.

The Chinese brand has confirmed that the Monjaro aims to offer a ‘class-above’ level of interior space, while all cars will get Xingrui Intelligent Large Language Model, which is an automotive-focused artificial intelligence system designed to support all in-car infotainment features such as navigation, voice assistance and primary controls.

Geely, which also owns manufacturers such as Volvo and Lotus, launched as its own automotive brand in the UK last year with its EX5. It has since built on that initial SUV with the smaller Starray and the city-focused EX2.

It’s expected that further pricing and specification information for the new Monjaro will be announced soon.
