What are the odds on that? Score tip from sleepwalker is a winner

A Brazilian woman has amazingly won a sweepstake bet – after successfully predicting that Germany would thrash Brazil 7-1 in their World Cup semi-final.

And as if not that's incredible enough, the woman only came up with the idea of betting on that scoreline because her sleep-walking husband told to her to days previously.

The story was revealed by respected Brazilian news outlet Lance who published confirmation of the betting slip along with the bizarre conversation that took place prior to the bet.

Anna Guerra, a 44-year-old artist, confronted her sleep walking husband and asked him who would win, Germany or Brazil.

"He said Germany," said Mrs Guerra.

"I asked him what the score would be and he said '7-1'."

The woman scooped around 200,000 Brazilian Real for her victory, which may sounds amazing but is actually only worth about £55.

Meanwhile, one West Midlands punter was £500 richer today after celebrating Germany's 7-1 win.

The lucky gambler staked a pound on the Germans to be 5-0 up at half-time and cashed in to the tune of £500 after being offered odds of 500-1 on that score by bookies Paddy Power.

Brazil's manager Luiz Felipe Scolari described watching the crushing defeat as being the "worst day of his life".

And the country's president Dilma Rousseff said she was sad and sorry at the result.

The result sent shockwaves around the football world, but it was also a big deal on Twitter.

The social network says that the match became its most discussed sports game ever, with 35.6m tweets.

It easily beat the previous record of 24.9m tweets set by the Super Bowl earlier in 2014.
