Last chance at Wolves for injury-hit Razak
Perennial injury victim Razak Boukari has been given another chance to stake a claim at Wolves – almost three years after his last appearance.
The Togolese winger made a surprising return to action in last night's under-21 game at Fulham, playing the first 45 minutes at Motspur Park.
Boukari was last seen in the first team in September 2012 against Sheffield Wednesday.
He left the field injured and has rarely been fully fit since, apart from when on loan at French side Sochaux in the 2013/14 season.
A succession of injury problems have ruined his Wolves career and restricted him to just six appearances, which were all made in the first month after he joined from Rennes for £2.5m in August 2012.
The 28-year-old is out of contract next summer.
But Kenny Jackett has handed him another olive branch to make a belated impact at Molineux.
"He's training with the under-21s at the moment," Jackett said ahead of last night's game. "Its been a frustrating time for him injury-wise and it'll be good to see him play some football.
"Hopefully he starts building up confidence in his body that he can have a period without breaking down through injury.
"He'll be as frustrated as anybody else with the repetition of his injuries."
Boukari's Wolves career appeared to be over recently when Jackett said it was 'quite poor' that the winger had not managed to build up to fitness after being injury-free since March.
The Wolves boss said he wouldn't be considering Boukari until he could prove his fitness.
That opportunity now appears to be coming Boukari's way in what is surely his last chance at making a go of it at the club. Jackett added: "As he tries to build up we'll be professional and careful with him and he and ourselves hope he can continue, in terms of his career, go on an upward curve.
"Its an opportunity to stake a claim.
"He comes in and works hard and gets on with it, there's no problems in terms of work ethic, its just those injuries that's stopped his Wolves career."
Wolves were today looking to get back on track at Cardiff City following the midweek defeat at home to QPR.
Kevin McDonald scored an excellent goal to put Wolves 2-0 up on Wednesday night and Jackett said he would be looking for more goals from the Scot, as well as recent signing Conor Coady.
The boss said: "We feel as he passes the ball through with such accuracy on the edge of the box, can he not side-foot and pass that ball into the corner?
"He did that very well and has been working on it in training, trying to get him up to the edge of the box to sidefoot in either corner and upping his goals total."
