Wolves to sell Steven Fletcher to Sunderland for £14m

Wolves were today set to complete the £14m sale of Steven Fletcher to Sunderland – as they mulled over West Ham's £10m bid for winger Matt Jarvis.

Wolves have finally accepted the Black Cats' offer for Fletcher, which ended a summer-long saga following numerous rejected bids from the Wearsiders over the last seven weeks.

The striker travelled to the north east yesterday afternoon for a medical and to talk personal terms – which will more than double his wages – after training with Wolves. The deal, a record sale for the Championship club, was expected to be confirmed today.

The fee is likely to remain undisclosed by the clubs, but sources close to the deal indicate Wolves have held out for £14m with minimal add-ons but a sizeable sell-on clause.

Members of the Molineux board met on Tuesday before the league game with Barnsley to discuss the latest bids for Fletcher and Jarvis and it is likely that was when they reluctantly decided to cash in on the pair.

The double deal would see a mind-boggling £24m pour into the Molineux coffers – although a chunk of it has to go out in sell-on clauses negotiated with Burnley and Gillingham.

The Fletcher transfer more than doubles Wolves' record sale – Robbie Keane's £6m switch to Coventry in 1999 – while it represents a 100 per cent profit on the £7m they paid Burnley two years ago.

Wolves have to hand over 15 per cent of the profit to the Turf Moor club, which means the Clarets are set for a windfall of up to £1m.

While Fletcher is set to complete his move, Wolves appear to be close to accepting West Ham's latest bid for Jarvis.

The Hammers have offered £7m up front plus a further £3m in add-ons for the one-capped England international, who also trained with the squad yesterday after starring in the 3-1 win over the Tykes at Molineux.

Wolves have to hand up to 15 per cent of the profit on the £600,000 they paid Gillingham in 2007.

But with the money in the bank for their two star players, attention will quickly switch to how Wolves are going to replace the duo.

It is understood FC Copenhagen's Christian Bolanos is a potential replacement for Jarvis.
