Shrewsbury Town defender Ryan McGivern set for spell on sidelines following injury

Shrewsbury defender Ryan McGivern is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up shoulder damage in Saturday's fine win at Millwall.

The Northern Ireland stopper, who joined from Port Vale in the summer, came off midway through the second period at The Den after landing awkwardly.

The 26-year-old has been featuring at left-back for Paul Hurst's side in recent weeks and had helped Town register back-to-back clean sheets against Vale and Fleetwood, before Saturday's shutout in London.

McGivern was sent for a scan and Town are currently awaiting the results, with early signs that the left-sided defender has damaged ligaments in his shoulder.

He is likely to be out for a minimum of three weeks and, should the injury require surgery, he could face a couple of months on the sidelines.

Forward AJ Leitch-Smith is Hurst's other definite absentee for tomorrow's FA Cup replay trip to Fleetwood, with the goal-getter struggling to recover from a knee problem.
