Scottish Premier League boss Alan Archibald has been approached to become the new Shrewsbury Town manager, according to reports north of the border.

The 38-year-old Partick Thistle chief is the longest-serving manager in the SPL, having been at the helm at the Firhill Stadium since January 2013.

Archibald enjoyed a 13-year playing career with the Jags and stepped into management with no experience, but was able to guide the side into the top tier, winning the Championship.

Archibald has had no direct contact with Salop representatives. But it is reported that Town asked for compensation details on securing the highly-rated boss.

Since guiding Thistle to the top flight, Archibald's side have secured 10th, 8th and 9th place finishes - despite working with one of the lowest home attendances in the division.

Archibald has dropped to 6/1 second favourite with the bookmakers - behind fellow Scot John Hughes.
