Micky Mellon says Wigan have team fit for level above
Micky Mellon has braced Shrewsbury Town for a taste of the Championship on Saturday at Wigan.
The Town boss has watched the expensively-assembled Latics in their last two games against Rochdale and Blackpool and reckons they have a squad ready for the second tier.
Gary Caldwell's side have lost just two out of their last 16 games in all competitions, winning nine, to rise to fifth in League One.
They signed Will Grigg from Brentford for a reported £1m, Michael Jacobs from Wolves for a six-figure fee and have taken five players on loan from Premier League clubs plus three from the Championship.
Town return to action after a two-week break during which time Wigan have played twice.
And after watching them beat Blackpool 4-0 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and Rochdale away 2-0 in the league, Mellon reckons his side face a squad fit for the next level.
"When you look around and see the team they can put out, it's a squad you'd be very impressed with in the Championship," said Mellon.
"I went to watch them a week last Tuesday and on Saturday and they bring off one household name and bring on another.
"They have a squad lavished with talent that we can all be very envious of."
