Micky Mellon dresses down Town side

Dejected Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon gave his team a 40-minute dressing down after the Halloween horror show at Port Vale.

Town lost 2-0 in the Shropshire-Staffordshire derby thanks to two second-half goals from the hosts.

And they didn't offer the 500-strong travelling anything to shout about, mustering up their first shot on target four minutes from time.

Mellon said: "We've had a good chat there, an animated chat, with what it boils down to today and we need to get better at being more streetwise at League One football.

"That'll stay between us in the dressing room."

The Town chief insisted he was disappointed that his side did not do enough to try and mix-up their performance.

A uneventful first-half had the two sides going in level but Town struggled to find any rhythm in the second period.

Mellon added: "I'm going to digest today before I start thinking about anything else.

"We'll do what we always do and comb over a reason why we gave such a lackluster performance and we'll look at each other and if we can find a reason why then we will try and fix that.

"If you're not winning the knock-downs and you feel the need to do something different then try and do something different.

"In too many areas today, we weren't able to dent them going forward, we weren't able to run strongly enough and create overloads in areas in the pitch that we wanted to.

"It's a concern to lose games of football, regardless of where that you're losing them. Especially when you're conceding crazy goals like we're doing."
