Bobby Grant tipped to get Town firing again
Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon hopes new winger Bobby Grant will provide the ammunition to get his strikers firing again.
The 24-year-old, former Rochdale forward has signed on a month's loan from Championship side Blackpool and will be thrown straight into the squad to face Cheltenham tomorrow.
And Mellon believes the tricky winger will play a key role in creating as well as scoring goals.
He said: "It's been quite obvious that we need to get some goals back into the group. Bobby is a wide player, his goal-scoring record is one in three from wide areas so he is a lad with a lot of talent.
"We are really pleased to have him here. He is a player that if we can get up to speed will please the fans with his style so we are keen to get him on the pitch as soon as possible."
Town have only managed to score twice in their last eight games and Mellon, who said he wouldn't be signing any forwards following the Plymouth game, insisted Grant will help Town rediscover their goalscoring touch.
He said: "Bobby is a good finisher and he scores but he's not a striker – he is a winger. We have got four good strikers and I want to make that clear.
"We just felt in the wide areas we needed more of a threat, we needed someone who would add to the goals that the strikers will bring.
"We have only scored two in eight and that is why we have brought someone in to add to it."
Grant moved to Blackpool at the beginning of last season after scoring 15 goals in 36 games for Rochdale.
However, the winger struggled to break into the first team and then went on loan to Fleetwood, where he picked up an injury 38 minutes into his debut.
Grant, from Litherlan in Merseyside, cannot wait to get playing football, saying: "I can score goals at this level, I've proved that through my career.
"So this move was about coming down, enjoying my football and playing for a team which, I think, should be right up there. I can't wait to get started."
