Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner hailed the impact of late arrival Jermaine Grandison after he inspired a 2-1 comeback win over promotion rivals Crawley.

Town recovered from a goal down to triumph through Mark Wright and Marvin Morgan strikes in a victory that lifted them back into League Two's top three.

But it was defender Grandison, stuck in motorway traffic on his way to the ground before eventually coming on with Morgan at half-time, who came in for special praise from the Town boss for playing his part in the victory.

He said: "If you look at Jermaine Grandison, he had been playing very well.

"But he was stuck on the motorway.

"We had the message that he was almost at Coventry.

"We knew he wasn't going to be here by kick off time in order to prepare himself, so I had no option but to leave him on the bench.

"Shane Cansdell-Sherriff is an experienced player but he hasn't played for five weeks and Jermaine made the difference.

"And Marvin Morgan, with his pace and mobility was able to play in behind them.

"The two of them combined very well for the winner, which I felt Marvin took ever so well."

But the manager was under no illusions that it was far from a vintage home performance.

Turner said: "It's three points from an exceedingly average performance from us.

"It was a great result for us, given the circumstances.

"I said to Steve Evans at the end of the match that we've done to them what Swindon, to some extent, did to us last Tuesday.

"I thought Crawley played ever so well.

"They caused us problems and probably took us by surprise by the pace they played at.

"We never got it going in the first half and we were lucky to be 1-1 at half time.

"But, to be fair, to the players they have stuck at it and dug in.

"I don't want to start knocking the players because it's a crucial stage of the season for us and we got the win."
