Recuperating defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff is on course to make a faster than expected return to Shrewsbury Town's promotion push – as the Australian sets his sights on a new contract.
It had been feared the reliable centre-half could be sidelined for up to six weeks, after suffering a shoulder injury in a nasty collision with Liam Dickinson in the 2-1 victory over Southend 10 days ago.
But Cansdell-Sherriff is pleased with his progress and believes he could be back within the next fortnight.
The 29-year-old said: "It's coming along really well.
"It still gets a little bit stiff after I've been working hard but I'm pleased with the progress. I'm doing everything I can to get back as quickly as possible.
"It's been about 10 days since I did it and, hopefully, in about another 10 days I will be ready to join in with the boys again and get back to full training."
That will be a major boost to manager Graham Turner, who has run short of defensive options.
Reuben Hazell has had a long-term injury and West Brom loanee James Hurst decided to move to Chesterfield last month.
Meanwhile, the club's longest-serving player Cansdell-Sherriff is hoping for fresh terms to extend his Shrewsbury Town career into a fifth season.
The former Tranmere and Rochdale stopper's contract expires in the summer but he is desperate to remain part of Turner's plans.
He said: "We haven't spoken yet but I would love to stay because this place feels like home.
"To be here as long as possible would be fantastic.
"But the big target, at the moment, is to get promotion and we are in a great position with 18 games to go.
"I thought we were going to do it last year but I feel we have got a better balanced squad now."
Town have made provision to stage a 9am pitch inspection on Saturday if needed due to the frost.
