And the owner warned rivals that head coach Tom Watkins will be armed with "a very competitive budget" for next season.

Scholes becomes chairman of the re-named Telford Ice Sports Ltd (TIS), which will now run the club.

Businessman Matt Bowyer becomes a director, alongside Tigers general manager Paul Thomason.

Scholes is "as committed as ever" to the club, but made the move because of the demands placed on him by his business travel schedule.

He commented: "Our fantastic coach Tom Watkins has a very competitive budget for next season, and we have already started building an extremely good squad.

"I want us to be back at the top of the league. I have always said that I want the Tigers to be sustainable in the future, and this move is part of that."
