David Pallett's one win in Dublin at the weekend proved invaluable as he rose another place in the world rankings.

A tough weekend on the floor awaited the darter from Newport in the PDC Players Championship ahead of the World Grand Prix,

The City West Hotel is staging both tournaments and first welcomed throwers on Friday, for the first of two Players Championship competitions.

Pallett missed the money stages of the opening event after a see-saw battle against Devon Petersen, bowing out 6-5 in the last leg of their first round tie.

The 25-year-old returned to the same venue on Saturday and, this time, made it past the opening hurdle with a 6-0 whitewash of friend Ricky Evans.

He was defeated 6-1 in the next round to Mensur Suljovic in the next round, but picked up £250 as a second round loser.

That somehow lifted him a place to 46th on the PDC Order of Merit, but he did drop another three places to 49th in the Pro Tour standings.
