It's the Ally Pallett and PDC safety for David

Newport's David Pallett has safeguarded his future in the PDC for another year as well as qualifying for his debut in the World Championship.

Could this happen again at the Ally Pally? Watch David Pallett take on world champion Michael van Gerwen at the German Darts Masters in April.

Pallett held his position of 55th, as the Pro Tour Order of Merit came to a close with the last two Players Championship events of the year, writes Craig Birch.

The top 64 will be a part of the PDC's biggest tournament at Alexandra Palace in London next month, when Sky Sports Darts replaces Sky Sports 3.

They are also guaranteed entry to the Pro Tour for 2015, so the Shropshire darter won't have to compete in January's Qualifying School.

The 24-year-old will bank £8,000 for his ranking and his pocket before an arrow is thrown for the Sid Waddell Trophy, but is looking to kick on.

He said: "It means I won't have to go to Q School to win another card, which is a big help. I am clear of that now, so I concentrate on the worlds.

"I am looking forward to playing in front of thousands of people at the Ally Pally and having a main game on Sky Sports.

"I am hoping to get up to around 46th just through this, so my aim is to break the top 40 and then onto the 32."

Pallett will now sit and wait for the worlds draw, which will be made next Tuesday on Sky Sports News at 12.30pm.

The first 32 are seeded, which will produce his opponent for the first round, but he wants one of the big guns to boost his profile.

He said: "I will be playing a seed and one of the top names would be good. I would rather do that, because it takes the pressure off me.

"I wouldn't mind Phil Taylor or Michael van Gerwen, even Adrian Lewis or Raymond van Barneveld, something like that.

"If you get one of those, you know the game will be highlighted and the crowd will be buzzing. Then again, if I get through the first couple of rounds, that would be even better.

"I am just waiting for the draw, to see who I get and then start preparing for it."

Pallett went for safe rather than sorry in Players Championship tournaments on Saturday and Sunday, picking up another £750 in the process.

He was defeated by Adrian Lewis 6-4 in the second round of the first competition and lost out by the same margin to Gary Anderson, one phase on a day later.

He said: "I targeted a steady weekend just to make sure but, as it ended up, I wouldn't have needed anything. My confidence is high right now.

"I am practicing a lot more, which gives you the faith in your darts that you can beat the top players, which I have been taking into competitions.

"You are never going to get an easy game, so you have to be on top form."
