Ellesmere College pupils followed up last year's impressive showing by claiming gold in the Under-12 and Under-15 Girls' team events and securing individual honours.

The competition automatically qualifies the teams for both the British Modern Biathlon Championships and the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships.

There was team success in the Under-12 category for Eleanor Bainbridge, Esme Hughes and Caitlin Adams.

Esme also won gold in the individual competition and Eleanor silver, which involved a 50 metre swim and 800 metre run.

In the Under-12 Boys' Individual competition, Luke Warren beat off stiff opposition to win Silver.

At Under-15, Sunetra Chatterjee, Elinor Haworth and Shannon Davies secured the team gold over a 200 metre swim and 1600 metre run, with points being awarded for each discipline.

Both teams now head to the national finals at the end of November which will also be held in Solihull.

Tom Rylands, Ellesmere College's pentathlon coach, said: "We were so pleased to get a place in the national finals.

"All of the pupils have worked really hard training for this. Their achievement is unbelievable. Being the best in the region is a tremendous boost for them."
