AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton has said up to half of his playing squad could leave over the summer as he contemplates his summer reshuffle.

The manager admitted his squad needs major surgery for next season because he reckons the Blue Square Premier will be even stronger.

Sinton said: "Over the next week or so, myself and the chairman will sit down with the players and decide who we want to keep and who we don't.

"There are options we can exercise on some contracts, whereas with others we need to just sit down and start from scratch.

"It wouldn't surprise me if only 50 or 60 per cent of the squad that we have now are here next season."

Sinton admits it is tough for the Bucks, with their budget dictating that the boss cannot always afford to chase his preferred targets.

The club's history means the New Bucks Head remains a popular destination for plenty of players though, so he has no worries he will be able to find the right men to improve the squad.

Sinton added: "I have already indentified a few of the players I want to try to bring in, but it always comes down to money in the end.

"The good players cost money and we don't have a lot of that, but I have still had plenty of players and agents contacting me so I am sure we can find the players we need."
