Record appearance-maker Ryan Young is set to mark another big milestone for AFC Telford United on Saturday - with his 250th appearance for the club.

Goalkeeper Young became the first Telford player to reach 200 outings last term, a feat since matched by midfielders Carl Rodgers and Jon Adams.

The No 1 - who celebrated his 32nd birthday on Christmas Day - remains a firm fixture in the side and has been backed by manager Andy Sinton despite Telford's poor recent defensive record.

"He conceded four at Cambridge on Saturday (in the FA Trophy) but there's only the third one where you could say he might have done better," said Sinton.

"He's not really been at fault with any of the goals we've conceded lately, including the four at Wrexham on New Year's Day, and he's been a bit let-down by what's in front of him.

"I believe he is one of the best goalkeepers in the Conference."

Meanwhile, Sinton is continuing his efforts to bring in defensive reinforcements ahead of Saturday's league clash with Cambridge.

The Bucks boss thinks too many of the goals conceded of late have been avoidable and is eager to strengthen.

But he admits there is little scope in his budget and players may have to go out first.

"I've got quite a few irons in the fire but nothing is imminent," he said.

"There was one player we had a good chance of getting but he's picked up a slight strain so that's gone on the back-burner for now.

"I'd like to get someone in for Saturday but whether it can be done or not, I don't know. If it doesn't happen, it won't be for the lack of trying.

"We've not had any fresh approaches for any of our players in the last couple of days," he added.

"People chucked a few names into the equation last week but no-one has come back to me yet."
