Amelie Davies, who attends Shrewsbury School, has been named in the Welsh under-16s squad for an international test series taking place over Easter weekend.

Davies will now be part of the squad that competes against both Scotland and Switzerland in matches taking place in Cardiff.

The youngster has been playing hockey since the age of seven.

As well as representing Shrewsbury School, Davies also plays for Wrexham Glyndwr Hockey Club.

And last summer she was entered into the Wales 360 Performance Programme – a scheme aimed to nurture of the talent of the country's finest young players.

That has led to her attending a host of training session ran by the Welsh Hockey Union.

And now Davies is looking forward to representing her country on an international stage.

"I am thrilled to have been selected," she said. "My aim is to continue improving as a player and to inspire others to play.

"I hope to retain my place for the match against France later this year and also the Futures Cup. My ambition is to eventually progress to the international senior squad."

Davies is also part of Shrewsbury School's very successful under-15 girls' cricket team who were recently crowned Lady Taverners' Indoor Cricket County champions.
