Telford Tigers returned to the top of the English Premier League with a dramatic 2-1 overtime win over Swindon Wildcats.

Victory at Telford Ice Rink saw the Tigers take a one-point lead at the top of the standings, following Milton Keynes' 5-1 loss to Hull.

Telford's win followed an equally hard-fought encounter on Saturday night, when the Tigers lost 4-3 away to the Lightning – again in overtime.

Telford head coach Tom Watkins said: "It is nice to win one in overtime, as we have been a bit unlucky with them in recent weeks. Sam Zajac came up with another big winner for us.

"After the late Swindon goal, it was a case of just refocusing and getting guys back on track. We used the bench a lot today, so we had some good legs and had good energy in overtime."

The game started with a goalless first period, although Telford dominated proceedings with a string of shots on Swindon netminder Stevie Lyle.

Michal Satek struck for the Tigers on 24 minutes – an advantage they held until just 26 seconds before the end of the game when Swindon scored.

But following agonising overtime defeats to Peterborough and Milton Keynes in recent weeks, Sam Zajac came up with a dramatic winner for Telford.

Telford travel to Sheffield Steeldogs next, before hosting Milton Keynes.
