Having struck gold in the men's individual W1 category on Friday, Walker then teamed up with Jo Frith on Saturday to take top spot in the mixed W1 competition.

Walker, who is from Newport, secured a 141-139 success over David Drahoninsky of the Czech Republic to claim his individual honour.

The 42-year-old then joined Frith in defeating the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea to complete an outstanding weekend for British archery.

Walker, who is in a wheelchair following a motorbike accident, took up the sport as a hobby in 2013. And he admits he has surprised himself with his success in Rio.

"This is beyond my wildest dreams," he said. "I had to calm my excitement after winning the first gold but I knew Jo and I could do it. We train together every week and work so well as a team.

"To think I took up archery as a hobby in 2013 and here I am with two Paralympic gold medals. It is just amazing."

Frith had earlier secured a silver medal in the women's individual final, with the 55-year-old missing out on gold to team-mate Jess Stretton as GB registered a 1-2-3 on the podium.

"I was exhausted after my individual event but I managed to grab a nap before John and I started practicing again," she said. "It's been amazing, everyone's come out and shot to the best of their ability and it's shown Great Britain are the best in the world when it comes to the W1 category.

"John and I have shot together for a very long time and this is the final title in our collection."

Walker's two gold medals cap a whirlwind two years for the Shropshire athlete.

Having taken up para-archery after watching Matt Stutzman compete in the 2012 Paralympics, Walker became world champion last year.

And in May he set himself up for Olympic glory by winning gold at the European Para-Archery Championships in France.

Elsewhere, Jim Roberts, from Welshpool, was part of the GB side that finished fifth in wheelchair rugby.
