Clare Ellam is a professional racehorse trainer who is currently based in Derbyshire.

Ms Ellam has run a yard specialising in the treatment of injured racehorses for the past nine years, with a particular focus on tendon injuries. She now hopes to create an all-weather gallop tack and horse training centre at Lostford Manor Stables in Tern Hill, near Market Drayton.

Ms Ellam said: "Lostford Manor Stables is an existing equestrian facility with 21 boxes, barns, lunging ring, horse walker and four fenced paddocks. This existing equestrian facility is therefore perfectly set up to bring my successful business to Market Drayton.

"The current set-up of the site is well established for equestrian purposes, further enhanced by the planning permission given for the erection of an equine worker's dwelling on site.

"We are not proposing any change of use to the site but there is a need for the gallop track and horse training / show jumping arena to ensure I can provide the same training and care that has seen success over the years.

"The use of the gallop track will be for the private training provided by the business that is located on site, it will not be open for public users. The proposal is considered by us to be an appropriate one for this rural area. The sensitivity of the location has been dealt with through careful design, layout and materials.

"The proposed development makes the whole property an excellent racehorse training facility and will result in sustainable development and support the growth of a rural business."

Ms Ellam's success stories include the horse Jadanli, who was an 11-year-old with his second tendon injury on the same leg in two years. He went on to win a race in Ireland in 2012 that brought in prizemoney of 54,000 euros.

She specialises in manipulation and massage for horses to reduce pain and increase mobility.
