More than 200 sign up for 34th annual Sexarathon
More than 200 runners have already signed up for Telford Athletics Club's 34th annual Sexarathon Series, which gets underway in Lilleshall tomorrow night.
The race, one of the oldest in its kind in the country, begins with the Lichfield 5 Mile event and now boasts a new sponsor in the shape of Wood's The Cleaners of Shifnal and Bridgnorth.
First held in 1983, the Sexarathon Series includes six races held between April and September. Distances at each event vary between five miles and five kilometres, with runners of all abilities invited to take part.
Entries are still open to pre enter or enter on the night. Runners can either enter individual races or the whole series.
Last year's champions Claire Martin and Jon Bowie will be looking to defend their titles.
Telford member Martin is looking to win the Series for an 11th time having claimed her maiden victory back in 1994.
Bowie, who represents Mercia Fell Members, claimed his maiden success last year. He begins his defence in fine form, having recently take victory in the Wrekin Fell Race.
The Lilleshall event takes place at the National Sports Centre, with the route beginning on the main drive and then consisting of a loop around public roads at the end of the drive, past Norwood House and The Fox, before returning to the sports centre along the main drive.
The Series then continues on May 18 with the The Phoenix Flyer Five Kilometre Race.
Further events include the Shropshire Four Mile on June 8, The Ironbridge 4 Mile on July 6 abd the Vic Musgrove Five Kilometre race on July 20 before the Sexarathon concludes with the Harper Scarper on August 31.
Runners can enter in advance to avoid the queues or on the night at each race.
There is a special entry fee rate for those wishing to enter the series before the first race at just £30 for athletic club members and £42 for unattached runners.
On the night for the series it is £35 and £47 for unattached runners. Single race entry fees are £7 for athletic club members or £9 for unattached runners. Special Technical T Shirts for all series entrants who finish 5 out of the 6 races.
