The school, representing Shrewsbury Town, saw off Bottisham Village College – who were representing Cambridge United – courtesy of Anna Bebb's solitary strike.

Bebb did not have to wait too long for her memorable moment, with just six minutes on the Wembley clock when her long-range strike found its way beyond United shot-stopper Rebecca Marsh.

Thomas Telford and Shrewsbury were hoping to avenge the disappointment of two years ago, where they lost 1-0 in the Wembley showpiece.

The 14-minute clash was held before Sunday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy final, that saw Barnsley beat Oxford United 3-2.

The lively Sophie Bramford was twice denied by Marsh either side of half-time as Thomas Telford continued to dominate.

The Cambridge youngsters almost broke Salop hearts late on when a shot flew narrowly wide of the right-hand post.

After claiming the trophy, Bebb admitted her Wembley winner would be a moment that will remain with her forever.

She said: "I'm excited to have scored the winning goal. All my family were there, our teachers have been really helpful and our aim was to make sure we enjoyed it and got an early goal.

"It's something I will remember for the rest of my life."

Team-mate Bramford added: "It was great. We had a tour prior to the game which was enjoyable, it was fun to play at Wembley."

The students had progressed through four rounds to qualify for the final and were praised by teacher Iain Sweeney.

Sweeney said: "I'm very proud of them, they've battled hard to get to this stage. It's a fantastic achievement.

"We told them to go out, enjoy it and try and get an early goal because 14 minutes will go in the blink of an eye. It was a team effort, they all did their bit.

"We came here two years ago and lost 1-0 in the final, so to come here and win it this year it's great.

"It's been brilliant to have the backing of Shrewsbury Town and The Football League."

The competition, for girls under 13, was organised by The Football League Trust and saw more than 6,200 girls take part in group stages on the road to Wembley.

Each of the 72 Football League clubs ran their own tournaments for local schools, to determine who would represent them in the competition.
