So enraged was he that he duly put on his kit and placed himself in the team, taking a starring role in training.

It was the first time the Welsh Champions had lost at home for the first time in four years. Having watched the game at The Venue, Park Hall, Mike Harris said he felt he could do a better job himself.

The whole drama has been captured on video as part of an April 1 special report and was today pride of place on the TNS website.

The surprise announcement was made ahead of tomorrow's crucial Welsh Cup semi-final against Connah's Quay.

Mr Harris, proud chairman of the Welsh premier champions, insists he will starting as the sole striker for the televised, evening match.

He said he would be aiming to fire his own side into the Cup Final.

Mike Harris in action during training

"We have been conceding goals and only scored one last week so I will be in the starting line-up because we need more firepower up top."

Despite not playing professionally, the TNS owner insists he is confident he is the key to securing progression into the Final and with full timers TNS still on course for a treble, Harris is confident of scoring his own treble tomorrow.

"After a week training hard, I am sure I can help the side and I am confident I can also score a hat-trick tomorrow, having found the back of the net with ease this past week."

The video claims the chairman has been on the club's pitch for hours, training for the vital top of the table game.

There was apparently a last minute gliche when it was feared red tape might stop Harris turning out for his beloved team.

But eventually Chief Operating Officer Ian Williams was able to register Harris minutes before the deadline ahead of the big game .

He shoots, he scores

He said it was a great decision to put Harris up front.

"Having watched him in training, he looked sharp and raring to go. With his movement and agility I am sure he will cause a number of problems for the gap Connah's Quay defence and I am relieved we were able to register him in time," he told the video documentary.

The Saints will take on Connah's Quay tomorrow in the JD FAW Welsh Cup Semi-Final at Paveaways Latham Park. The match will kick off at 5.15pm and will be broadcast live on S4C. Mr Harris will be there, but in what capacity, fans will have to wait and see.
